  [First playthrough] BloodBorne
Posted by: NZs no.3 - 02-04-2015, 07:58 AM - Forum: Video Game Discussion - Replies (14)

Welcome to my BloodBorne thread!

I will be documenting my first blind playthrough of BloodBorne here. From the creators of the Dark Souls games, come BloodBorne. From Software's newest game.

First impressions: Gorgeous game and environments. The atmosphere is making this game for me, it's so chilling.

When you start you are given the choice of one of three weapons and one of two sidearms. I ended up choosing the Saw-Blade and Pistol:

Main weapons are all transformable, as in they have a second form to attack with. In this case the saw blade can extend and retrack as need to be a close and mid range weapon.

The first set of clothing/armor I found was the Hunters equipment:

I've been busy exploring the first area and have located the first boss, however that will be a challange for later.

All in all, it was a fantastic first 2 hours. This game reaks of the first Dark Souls and the combat is even better with the use of the side and back-stepping instead of rolling while in combat.

As said, I will be docuemnting my first playthrough here and it will be a blind playthrough. I will be trying not to look up anything about the game and just play it as it comes, that's the best way to play Souls game anyway. I will also be recording some videos of my adventures including bosses that go well, bosses will be labeled a spoilers though as to not ruin anything.

  Admin GG's Multiplayer Mondays Thread
Posted by: NZs no.3 - 30-03-2015, 07:50 PM - Forum: Multiplayer Meet Up - Replies (47)

Welcome to Admin GG's Multiplayer Mondays Thread
The dedicated discussion thread of all Multiplayer Monday happenings

WTF is Multiplayer Mondays?
Glad you asked! Multiplayer Mondays is a fortnightly game night I host with a bunch of my friends.
In honor of KindaFunnyGames

So whats the point?

To play mostly multilayer/couch coop games with friends for laugh. We talk a lot of shit so language warning.
Occasionally we'll mix it up with card games like Munchkin.

Ok so when is it?
Every second Monday from now on! Videos will be uploaded after the session and appear in the thread later that Monday night or the next day. Occasionally we will stream a session on Twitch. I'll post in the thread before hand if that's to be the case.

Can I join?
Yeah sure. If we are going to play an online game then I'll post in this thread before we start.

So it's just to watch you play some stupid games?
Pretty dam much. I promise nothing but it may be entertaining.

First Session: Monday 23rd March 2015

What we played:
Towerfall Ascension

Towerfall Ascension madness:

HellDivers parts 1 and 2

HellDivers is easily my favourite game at the moment. Easily the best coop shooter to come out in awhile. Best with 3 other friends!

  Dragons of Tarkir
Posted by: Selegraphon - 21-03-2015, 04:53 PM - Forum: Everything Else - Replies (7)

With the new Magic: The Gathering set releasing next weekend, and the pre-release events already started, I thought it would be cool to have a thread up to discuss it!

Dragons of Tarkir is the third set in the Khans of Tarkir block. Sarkhan Vol has successfully travelled back in time to rescue Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, and changed the future of the plane forever. Thus, we are transported back to the same time as the first set, Khans of Tarkir. Dragons rule the sky in this version of the present, and the Khan-led clans have been wiped out by the five warring dragonlord-led clans. These clans are dual-coloured, as opposed to the triple-coloured Khan-led clans.

Dromoka is Green/White, and parallel to the Abzan. Ojutai is White/Blue, and parallel to the Jeskai. Silumgar is Blue/Black, and parallel to the Sultai. The Kolaghan is Black/Red, and parallel to the Mardu. And Atarka is Red/Green, and parallel to the Temur. The full card list/spoiler is here.

I'm going to tomorrow's pre-release at King of Cards in Auckland (and if anyone wants to join, hit me up!). I'm reasonably new to MtG (this will be my second event), so take everything I say with a pinch of salt.

I was thinking about going with Kologhan. Not just because I've recently discovered a new-found affinity with Mech-Mage aggro decks in Hearthstone (I'm scum, I know), or because I've never played Black or Red before. They've got what I think to be the most interesting cards (except for Silumgar, but playing that in Limited seems like it would much too difficult for me), and I think it will be a nice change of pace from how I normally play. Start hitting them in the face, and then keep doing it until they die. I like it. Atarka also looks just as simple and effective, but they look so boring to play.

Plus, have you seen this card art?

Uh, yes I wanna play that.

Plus they look like they've got some quite good cards to make use of the returning Dash mechanic. These two spring to mind:
[Image: en_IwRj0D9HKq.png][Image: en_3OpCU9RuUQ.png]
Both uncommon, so it doesn't seem too unlikely for me to get to be able to try them. If I get lucky, and get both, I'll definitely try to run a Dash deck. Seems like it will be fun.

Anyway, that's all I had to say. Is anyone else going to a pre-release? Has anyone been today? And what cards do you love/hate/find interesting from the new set? Let me know!

Spelunky - Review

Spelunky is a very well designed game, it knows exactly what it is trying to do, and accomplishes it brilliantly. There are not any games that are seemingly so simple, yet have such a huge depth to them that you can still be learning 100-200 hours in. It is a game that I imagine I will continue to come back to for years to come.

Loot Crate unboxing - February 2015 - PLAY!
Posted by: Lazy Dave The Monstrosity - 25-02-2015, 05:29 PM - Forum: Everything Else - Replies (6)

Just as the memory of subscribing to Loot Crate slipped from my mind, the crate of loot arrived!  Albeit, a little beaten up:

However, this did little to curb my enthusiasm as I tore into the black box of badassery:

Cue angelic choirs and pillars of sunlight!  The booklet on top contained an article on co-op gaming, the contents of the Mega Crate which I have a minuscule chance of winning, the history of controllers, and a page for each of the items in the crate:

[Image: IMG_20150225_160930.jpg]  [Image: IMG_20150225_161025.jpg]  [Image: IMG_20150225_161115.jpg]

Here's where the real fun begins.  Underneath the booklet:

At this point, I'm not really sure what I'm looking at...  So I pulled out the first item which just so happened to be:

Mini Munny!  A blank vinyl canvas shaped like a monkey!  You're encouraged to get creative with Munny, but to be honest, I'm just going to turn him into a Storm Trooper...

The HEXBUG Ant.  Robotic bug.  'Nuff said.

Paper, Scissors, Rock dice!!  For when using your hands is just not an option!

Superfight is a card game in which you pit randomised heroes against each other in the name of humour.  This particular deck is exclusive to Loot Crate.  I've heard a bit about this game and it seems like a geeky alternative to Cards Against Humanity.  Thus, can't wait to play.

After reading the first chapter and a few reviews, Ready Player One looks to be a great read, containing every pop-culture reference you could ever want.  It's so popular in fact that movie deals are currently being drawn up with one of my favourite directors Christopher Nolan in consideration, and a sequel on the way.

Pacman poster by pop-culture artist Manny Peters.  Only A4 in size, but I'm thinking it'll look good in a dirt cheap Warehouse picture frame.  Because everything looks good in a dirt cheap Warehouse picture frame.

And that pretty mu-  Wait, does that say Firefly?!?  Why yes, that's an unlock code for an exclusive ship from the upcoming Firefly Online video game!!  What else would it be?!  But no seriously, I had no idea there was a Firefly video game coming out...  Developers Quantum Mechanix better not fuck this up!

And that pretty much wraps it up.  However, Loot Crate, not wanting to waste space, also made the box into a board game far too reminiscent of Snakes and Ladders.  I'll stick to using it as a box...

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the contents of the crate, and I'm already looking forward to the next one!

Top 5 Video Games of 2014
Posted by: Kesh on Hend - 02-02-2015, 03:37 AM - Forum: Video Game Discussion - Replies (7)

2014 was a pretty shit year for the video game industry. Games were either terrible, broken or declared "misogynistic" by overzealous misandrists and other various types of degenerates who should have a word with Dr. Thomas Hildern about opinions. But there were few diamonds in the rough, which I'll list for you now:

  The Kingdom of Loathing
Posted by: Jargonion - 27-11-2014, 09:46 PM - Forum: Video Game Discussion - Replies (6)

The Kingdom of Loathing!

What is it?

The Kingdom of Loathing is a hilarious turn-based, stick-figure and text based browser game.

What's the point?

The goal of the game is to reach level 13 and kill the Naughty Sorceress. At this point, you can explore late-game areas, or start over again.

START OVER? That sounds like a waste of time

Wrong, you dummy. Every time you defeat the Naughty Sorceress, you are able to keep one or two skills (depending on the game-mode you just finished). With six (6!) different classes to chose from, each with 30 skills, there is a wealth of fun and opportunity to be had collecting skills to make you future runs more fun and dynamic.

You mean, I can change my class?

Yes...but. Once you start a run, you're locked into that class until you finish the run. That said, after 11 days, you're able to forfeit your run and start over again with no reward.

You mentioned it's turn based...how much do they make me pay to get more turns?

Absolutely nothing! Every day, you get 40 turns for free. You can generate turns in-game through eating and drinking items you can collect and craft through monster drops. There's NO system in place that lets you trade cash for turns.

What's the catch, then?

No catch. In fact, the game's over 11 years old, and has only gotten better as the years have gone on. There are no ads in the game, and the entire game is supported by those who decide to donate to it.

It's just a really fun and chill experience if you have some spare time and want to play something different.

How's the game play?

Challenging, at first. The good news is, there are so many places to explore, you shouldn't have trouble with combat if you spend your first play through just looking around. It wont take long at all for you to get a few skills under your belt, and you'll be stomping your way through hundreds and hundreds of hilariously written monsters with ease.

I would suggest making sure ou do the tutorial to ensure a firm knowledge of basic game mechanics

If I decide to check it out, could I get some help if I need it?

Of course! You can post here, or send a message to my account (Raymond Kinger), OR you could jump into the game's chat and ask around in there. There are plenty of super helpful and super friendly people who would be happy to guide a new player.

Show me what I'd be getting into

I'll show you a little. Really, though, I suggest you go ahead and make an account and just poke around. It takes about 10 seconds (minus thinking of a name), and doesn't require an email address unless you want to enter chat.

Here we can see the full map from my main account. Each and every zone on this map leads to dozens more zones, which may lead to even more zones. There is a shitload of stuff to see and do.

The bottom floor of Spookyraven manor. Only two zones are open initially. A puzzle must be solved in almost every room to unlock the next room (which will eventually unlock the second floor).

So, if you're interested, jump in and let me know how you found it.
