Jargonion's Deus Ex Tutorial MEGA THREAD
Posted by: Jargonion - 05-08-2014, 06:39 PM - Forum: Video Game Discussion - Replies (10)

Welcome, everybody, to my new series

Over the course of a few weeks, I hope to bring you a fairly comprehensive series of videos, playing through the original Deus Ex game.

These videos are fairly shitty, and by no means are the be-all-end-all of how to play the game. The videos do, however, offer advice on how to get past tricky segments of the game, or give just a general guideline on how to achieve certain objectives while getting a huge amount of XP and loot along the way.

Because there can only be 10 videos per post, I'll make a...

Table of Contents:

This post is Part 1

Important things to note (these are addressed in the first video):

  • The first two videos are extremely commentary-heavy. This is because they are the most tutorialish of the videos. As such, I explain a lot. Future videos will have much less commentary.
  • The playthrough is NOT stealth orientated. I will be unable to provide any tips for people who want to stealth the game.
  • It's a terrible habit, but I do quick save/load quite often. This should stop after the second video. I min/max somewhat on the first mission, which leads me to reload certain kills to be more ammo-efficient. After Liberty Island, however, this habit becomes significantly less pronounced.

I know I'm forgetting something, but I can't remember what. So, I'll continually edit this post to keep the details update.

Video 1: Character Creation.

In this video, I briefly chat about the skills you can chose from when you create your character, and go over a few basic mechanics of the game. No game play.

In this video, I complete the first mission of the game. I also explain the multi-tool/lock-pick bug, and show you how to by-pass the entire first mission.

Edit: Holy shit. I'm so sorry about the weird heavy-breathing. I don't know why it came across like that. It shouldn't feature in future videos.

This IS the last video in which I babble like a moron. I promise.

In this video I complete the second mission, including the secondary mission.

In this video, I explore Hell's Kitchen. We find our first augmentation upgrade canister, find smuggler, rescue Ford Schick, and defuse the hostage situation in the 'ton hotel.

I also (poorly) demonstrate grenade climbing, and the grenade surfing bug.

In this video, I explore the NSF warehouse, and finally complete my main objective.

I also babble like an idiot and die ten thousand times.

To be continued in a new post, since I'm limited to 10 videos per post.

  Rogue Legacy
Posted by: AdminGG - 01-08-2014, 08:36 PM - Forum: Video Game Discussion - Replies (10)

Rogue Legacy is an indie platform game with roguelike elements developed by Cellar Door Games.

This brilliant game has just recently been ported and released for PlayStation consoles, including PS3, PS4, and PS Vita.

I have it for PS Vita and it feels right at home on the Vita.

The following is Admin GG's experiences so far:

Holy crap this game is hard. Harder than most roguelikes and rogue-lites I've played.

It's a rogue-lite in the sense that, in death you keep and money, equipment and purchased upgrade. With every death you are meant to get stronger and stronger and acquire more money to buy better equipment.

So far my manor looks like this:

I quite like the Knight class which I have upgraded to Paladin. But on my last run I ran into some bullshit:

Which of course means death:

Shortly after though I unlocked the Shinobi class:

Equipped with new armor and runes, I tried to have a good run.

Each room is full of lost of enemies you have to kill. But the skill comes when you have to be fighting multiple enemies while dodging multiple projectiles all at once while watching your health and mana:

I think the idea is to keep heading up? Not 100% sure yet as I haven't figured it all out and I can see there's lots of depth in this game.

So I head up:

And whats up? Bullshit that's what.

The hell is The Maya? It killed me quick yo:

Seriously though. Really fun game. Picking your heir who can have quirky triats is the best. My favorite heir so far was a gay Paladin who was afraid of chicken and colour blind.

So who here has played Rogue Legacy? Any tips for a newbie like me?

Destiny Beta - it was open
Posted by: silentsun - 28-07-2014, 07:17 PM - Forum: Video Game Discussion - Replies (1)

EDIT: Beta is defiantly done just check full game out 090914

So this weekend Destiny's beta was open to the public on at least the PlayStation store. So I downloaded Saturday morning and had a play around. What was meant to be a couple of hours ended up being 6 hours which was disturbed only by friends turning up and whisking me away to be social.

From what I played the game play is what you expect from Bungie. Hadn't played any FPS on a console in over a year but I found myself adjusting to the familiar controls quite quickly. While 6 hours is not that long with a game like this I at no point did I feel I could blame the controls for any mistakes. As I am most at home with Bungie's FPS when it come to controls it might not work out so well for everyone.

Sound wise, hey it's Bungie they are doing a pretty bang up job.

Graphics wise, I played on the PS3. Now I am usually a PC game so I noticed that the graphics weren't the greatest. That said the aesthetic of the game is quite stunning. You can tell some one over there has a fetish for sky boxes because they are amazing. If I played this on a more powerful system it may be one of the best looking games I have played.

I have gone on quite a bit so I might just sum up my thoughts.

I will be buying this when it comes out and I have money, might even get a PS4 as well. Maybe.

Bug Who hasn't played Nuclear Throne yet?
Posted by: crispier taco - 26-07-2014, 06:25 PM - Forum: Video Game Discussion - Replies (144)

Who here plays Nuclear Throne?
For those who don't know what it is, it's a 2D shooting game? Permadeath and approximately 11 levels (sometimes more). Killing all the monsters advances you to the next level, and you collect bars of radiation from the corpses to level up, and with each level you choose a mutation (from all the radiation I guess). It's great fun. There are currently 11 characters to choose from, each has a special (right-click) ability and a unique passive thing.

I made a quiz: see which of the 5 original characters suit you best!

Take the quiz, all abuse welcome etc etc :@

Vagante is a roguelike platformer that was inspired by such games as Spelunky and Dark Souls (two games I love).

It of course features permanent death as a feature and randomly generated levels full of weapons, items, and lots of loot.

Currently it's in alpha revision 5 and has 3 bosses you can fight.

You can download the game from here:

I discovered it recently as decided to post my experience with it so far:

So I spawned near a shop you can see in to top left-ish side of the screen. Everytime you kill a monster you get gold you can spend at shops for items/weapons.

The game also features an inventory system:

You can have 5 spells, and 3 weapons/ranged weapons equipped at any time that you can instantly switch between. You also have 7 slots for equipment you can find or purchase.

Today was my first time stumbling across this boss:

He almost destroyed me but I managed to kill it with 10HP remaining:

When you kill a boss, they drop a key that can be used to unlock a hidden chest of the level that gives you loads of loot. It was my luck this chest to the left of the boss I just killed:

Unfortunately there was some floor monster type-thing next to the chest that popped up and owned my last 10HP.

My immediate game after that I came across the Dragon boss:

And without having to make many more screenshots you can guess what happened.

I thoroughly suggest you try this game! It's great and I love the music and pixel art.

Feel free to post about your experiences here! I want to keep learning about all the items you can get in this game.

Spelunky Classic Mod for Online Co-op
Posted by: Pythagean - 07-07-2014, 03:16 PM - Forum: Video Game Discussion - Replies (1)

Link to Blog Post

The classic version of the popular indie game Spelunky has just received a mod which allows players to play a 2-person co-op mode online.

Supposedly it is quite stable for a new released mod, I will definitely be giving it a go with Grey Ghost at some point.
