Max has three aunties back in the old country who regularly remind him that if Max were to return to his native Albania he would be honour-bound to participate in the family blood feud and Max feels conflicted about this.

Max is generally a peaceful guy who wants to find peaceful resolutions to conflict, however the family honour is vital to his identity and his Albanian blood surges hot and calls for his homeland. Were he to return, he fears he could not hold back from a savagery he sometimes wishes did not lurk deep in his heart

In his past, Max had a brief fling with Rosmerta, who left him because he was perpetually haunted by his work as a private detective, never able to truly be home and at peace for her. She had a litter and Max doesn't know if they are by him or Esmeraldo (currently her partner, who she was seeing covertly during her emotionally isolated relationship with Max). However when he sees the thousand yard stare in the eyes of that puppy on the left he feels it might have inherited his psychological trauma. The genetic counselors tell him he's mad and he should ask for a DNA sample but he doesn't want to risk being told an answer he can't handle.

Min has already acquired DNA samples, and done the tests, and Max knows that Min could reveal that knowledge at any time. It's a Schrödinger's sword of Damocles, but Max doesn't know if he's more afraid of being the father, or not
