Welcome back man! We really need to Dive. I haven't played it a little while now for similar reasons.

Helldivers: Democracy Strikes Back expansion launches today
New mission, ranks and specialists for Arrowhead’s multiplayer bug hunt

Citizens of Super-Earth, we are excited to announce Helldivers: Democracy Strikes Back, the latest free content expansion for Helldivers, available today on PS4, PS3 and PS Vita systems.

Our third expansion Helldivers: Democracy Strikes Back adds the Retaliatory Strike Mission. Drop down into the enemy strongholds and liberate! Expect wave after wave of enemies to resist your presence.

Helldivers: Democracy Strikes Back also adds 20 new ranks raising the MAX to 50, and will be accompanied by the release of additional DLC reinforcements; the Terrain Specialist and the Precision Expert, available for purchase tomorrow.

Helldivers Terrain Specialist
When you need to move fast through difficult terrain, the Terrain Specialist is the Helldiver to call upon. Equipped with all weather gear and boots capable of compensating for difficult terrain, they feel at home in any environment.

The Terrain Specialist Pack contains:

  • All Terrain Boots Perk – The Helldiver All Terrain Boots allows you to power through difficult terrain. Great for snow planets or when you need to cross a swamp.
  • Missile Barrage Stratagem – A portable missile battery fires a salvo at the targeted location, pretty much obliterating anything in the targeted area.
  • The Terrain Specialist Uniform, a cosmetic helmet, armor, and cape.

Helldivers Precision Expert

Equipped with specialized measuring gear, these Helldivers excel at landing precision strikes in a shorter time than other Helldivers. When you absolutely must hit with your stratagem, and in a timely manner, this is your Helldiver.

The Precision Expert Pack contains:
  • Precision Call In Perk – Better targeting data when calling in Stratagems allows them to be delivered faster. Stratagem call in time is lowered by 1 second.
  • Precision Artillery Strike Stratagem – An artillery strike fired in a tight cluster with top modern homing rounds able to alter their trajectory. It uses the same targeting algorithm as the Railcannon strike.
  • The Precision Expert Uniform, a cosmetic helmet, armor, and cape.
It is time to liberate once more…

Was meant to try it last night but didn't have the time. I think it adds a wave survival type mode? Sounds great though.

Wave-based survival mode would be interesting, given how our main strategy is to keep moving away from all the bullshit going on. A mode where you have to dig in and fight it out could be pretty fun.

I like the idea of the all-terrain boots, snow planets are so frustrating.

So, I splurged a bit and got some of the new content, and some of the old. My thoughts:

Weapons Pack
The Dum-Dum is fantastic. Plenty of ammo and power, great range. Basically a poor (or wealthy) man's sniper rifle, if you upgrade it to max so you can pinpoint stuff. Has a surprising rate of fire, too. Only downside, doesn't have the power to absolutely smash things like armored targets or objectives.

The plasma rifle, Scorcher is underwhelming when you swing it around and shoot, but when you hit, it's fantastic. Say goodbye to mobs, and your own face if you're in close proximity.

The Rumbler makes a bit of sense. Charge for range, release to shoot. Drops a volley of three on the target, but only two shots by default. It's never going to beat my favorites, the rocket launcher and the Dum Dum.

Defender Pack
The Supressor is the non-energy version of the Scorcher, and maybe the better of the two - identical stats, similar effect. It sounds better, and has a bayonet so you can optionally not die when in melee.

Specialist Pack
The Tanto is basically cheating. If you can handle a range that is infuriatingly too short, you have a gun that will flay the flesh off mobs and the low-level stuff. Throw in the fact that it's a laser weapon and one-handed, and you have the ideal gun for suitcase carriers.

I think it's clear what my favorites are from this lot.

Ha all 3 packs I do not have, despite having alot of the add-ons.

I've been thinking about picking up the weapons pack though.

How do you like the Guard Dog drone that comes with he defender? The times ive picked it up from others it helped pick off small fry that would be closing in on me. Good stuff.

Tanto is you r new shit then aye?

Yep. I do like my one-handed infinite ammo guns of reasonable power.

Haven't used the guard dog -- I'm not used to having a spare backpack slot. Might deliberately not take it so I can carry ammo packs for people and stuff.
