Character Creation Thread
#1
Hi guys.

We're getting closer and closer to the first session of The Crystal Mage.

As you should be aware, this is a 4-player campaign.

While we wait, I thought it'd be fun if those who want to play in the first campaign designed their characters here. Starting stats and items are listed in the player guide. I think it would add to the depth of the first campaign if everyone has already figured out their backstories, and socialised a little before it all starts.

Keep an eye out for future threads that help give a little context around the world. When taking breaks from hammering out silly and over complicated equations, I'll be posting little tidbits about the world, possibly influencing how you want to develop your character.

hmm.

I'm thinking either a Bandit, or a Brawler. I like the idea of just punching everything, that sounds fun. But no weapons is no weapons? No knuckle dusters or pointy rings I can equip?

Bandit sounds fun since it looks like he can open up some dialogue in ambush situations. This game all sword and sorcery? No guns?

Kinda keen to try out the coward. I swear there's gotta be something good about the class in some situations...

If my party doesn't want to deal with it I'm also interested in the scholar.

When I play these sorts of games I usually try out the damage heavy rolls (rouge, warrior, mage etc) so I'm keen to try out a not-so-combat oriented character.

Scholar could be cool.

Taco is looking at Account maybe? So a coward, accountant, and a brawler. Sounds interesting so far.

I would be keen to run a mage or scholar, leaning more towards scholar

Jargonion I'm sure you'll help me work this into the world you've written

I'm thinking that I'll play an accountant.

Worked either for the Fornsmill tax collection (if that's a thing), as an accountant for one of the local businesses, or as a wealth manager for a local noble/merchant.

Either way, attempted to embezzle gold. Was lazy and sloppy about it so it's not a big surprise I was caught. Decided to fall in with some people who looked like they might be heading out of town.

A Coward, an Accountant, a Brawler, and a Scholar walk into a bar.

This crew is going to be very interesting in combat.

I'll start thinking of a backstory.

My Brawler backstory (if any of it is allowed, I'm assuming/implying a couple of things about locations):

A hired bodyguard for The Protector’s Dome at Fort Jacob (if that's possible within the lore), if not then a hired muscle around Fort Jacob. Known for great strength and putting people down with the ol' one-two-uppercut, instead of with a weapon.

One night while bouncing for the local tavern, I had a rough step-in with some bandits from out of town. Overly lethal force was used due to being drunk on the job (whoops) however the bandits were up to no-good (in my opinion) and it was better to put them down than risk the safety of others. The reaming bandits took their mortally wounded comrades and retreated, swearing that I would pay some day. Townsfolk weren't particularly happy with my over-kill actions either, seeing as the bandits had not yet done wrong. I then decided to hop town myself before the heat surrounding my actions caught up with me.

Found some other dudes wandering around that looked like they were going places and up for adventures?

If you want to be a former protector who was excluded for this crime, I can work in special dialogue and relations with the faction for you (if you want).

My plan for tonight is to write up about the world. The only thing holding me back is that I need to change the map, and I can't draw for shit.
